Greenhorn Ranch

Let’s be honest, with things going the way they have been over the past two years, I don’t think it would be appropriate to suggest a staycation, but with everything else that is happening in our world, a trip to Europe might not be the best idea either. What if there was some sort of compromise? Some adventure that checks all the boxes but isn’t too far?

Enter: Greenhorn Ranch!

Less than 75 miles away (a 75 minute drive) from the heart of Reno you will find the Greenhorn Ranch, a dude ranch smack-dab in the middle of the Plumas National Forest in Quincy, California. Between the twice daily trail rides, target shooting, and the opportunities to fellowship with other guests around the campfire, it truly serves as a contemporary homage to the classic American West.

When you first arrive at the Greenhorn Ranch you will find yourself overwhelmed by the surroundings – beautiful wilderness; sometimes in my day-to-day life I forget how close we are to this beautiful, untouched wilderness. Nestled in their own little pocket of the Plumas National Forest you will find the Greenhorn Ranch Lodge and their staff. The Lodge features spacious guest rooms, but if you’re feeling more adventurous you might even opt to instead stay in their Creekside or Pines cabins, or even further, you might even opt for their Airstream experience.

One of the best things about the Greenhorn Ranch is the variety of experiences available to you, not only as far as activities, but also including meals, lodging, and more.

One of the most important elements of any dude ranch is horseback riding. The all-inclusive resort experience includes two trail rides each day through the wonderful wilderness in and around the ranch, with a selection of over 60 horses for all skill levels, many of which were born-and-raised at Greenhorn.

Want to slow down, and take in the afternoon sunshine? Go fishing for trout on the ranch. Greenhorn will provide you with poles and bait, and if you aren’t experienced don’t worry because they have an experienced guide that can help you make your first big catch! Want to take it a step further? Their guide can take you off of the ranch to a nearby river so you can try your hand at fly fishing.

I truly had a fabulous time at the Greenhorn Ranch, and in my opinion it is the perfect getaway. Not too far, so you don’t have to worry about differing restrictions, but also not too close so it isn’t really a staycation. So, meet some new people and get outside of your comfort zone.

Feed the Need Live-a-thon Recap

In late March, I was invited to be part of an amazing event hosted by my good friends Kay & Shi. The Feed the Local Need Live-a-thon was a benefit that addressed a host of needs we ALL have right now, including

  • The need for human interaction and light-hearted connection.
  • The need to share ideas on how to adapt businesses and strategies.
  • The need to provide hot, healthy food to healthcare professionals working tirelessly on the front lines of the pandemic.
  • The need to support local families whose jobs have been impacted by this challenge!

I was so excited to be on set from home highlighting a few of my favorite El Dorado County and Reno wineries. Below are a few of my favorite clips as I talk about one of my favorite topics (wine + helping others!) with two of my favorite people!

Together, it’s SO important to #FeedTheLocalNeeds of our community and show that while we may be socially distant, we are all still so connected.

Virtual Giving!

On today’s City Talk, we’ll learned how we in the community can support one another by purchasing items from local markets, restaurants, and service companies to show our support right now. Kaya Stanley from Rue Bourbon Reno and Old Granite Street Eatery  talked  about how folks can support MidTown businesses and order curb-side pickup on their favorite food items! Loved our special delivery by Anton owner of Rounds Bakery.  Those amazing to go always fresh package food were delicious.

Other guests include Dale and Denise from The The Urban Market, located in the Riverwalk District, Mike Owens with Crystal Basin Cellars, El Dorado Wine Country, and Valerie Barry with Kehret Vineyards. Huge thanks to Courtney and the team on Design on Edge for sponsoring today’s show and sharing how together we can all make a difference.

We also shared about #NationalCarryOutDay and Beth Carter with Crème Cafe & Catering called one to share as well.

Reno Winter Lights Festival & Sip and Shop

What a great 2019 Winter Light Festival and Riverwalk Sip and Shop. Tons of fun for all as we enjoyed the themed wine, mocktails, cocktail sips while we shopped along the Truckee River and neighboring streets in downtown.  It was fun to find so many new local hot spots, even a few firsts for me.  I have to share that one of my highlights of the day was the  Fish Out of Water art installation at Wingfield Park.

Otto the giant 30′ goldfish was hanging out over the Truckee River during the day and illuminated at night. We finished the day with the Reno Holiday Tree Lighting and of course lots of live music and Santa who handed out gifts to the first 500 kids.

I sure love watching our community come together as we share smiles, hugs and some Christmas cheer. Thank you to our amazing community for another AboutTownDeb adventure.

Reno’s Youth Serving Up Hope for Suicide Awareness

I sure love it when I am able support our local community and Grant Denton who’s passion is over the top in making a difference in the lives of others.

On December 10th, 2019  the kids at The Honors Academy of Literature took over the Campo in Reno  and served up some “HOPE” to raise money for suicide awareness as a fundraiser for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Nevada Chapter. What a a delicious way to support a very important cause.

I was able to arrive early and meet the kids and sponsors before heading to the studio for my On The Town Tuesdays radio show.  Sure wish I was able to stay and enjoy the delicious food and watch the kids in action.  I heard they rocked the night.

Huge thank you to the amazing kids at The Honors Academy of Literature and to Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital for making a difference in the lives of many.  Grant Denton, your vision and spirit will never go unnoticed.

Special thank you also to the City of Reno Government City Council for their support!
