Continuing a family legacy with a first-of-it’s-kind Sonic

Earlier this month, I attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of Sonic Drive-In in South Reno. At only 26 years old, Taylor Cain is carrying on her family’s legacy of entrepreneurship right here in Reno, Nevada.

After her father suddenly passed away in 2016, Taylor Cain, along with her two brothers, Ian and Quinn, took over operations for their family business.  “We’re very proud to carry on our family’s legacy and to keep Sonic local,” says Ms. Cain. The Cain family now operates six Sonic Drive-In franchises as well as two Sola Salon locations.

The new South Reno Sonic is the only one of its kind in Northern Nevada. In addition to the classic drive-thru and drive-in stalls, guests now have the option to dine-in on the detached patio or order through the Sonic app. Sonic-lovers can also try up to 13 million different drink combinations!

The Cain family has owned local Sonic franchises in Northern Nevada for over 20 years. Ms. Cain’s goal is to keep Sonic local here in Reno while giving back to the community. Ms. Cain was even generous enough to donate $100 in my name to the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation!

Even more exciting, Mayor Hillary Schieve had a special surprise for Ms. Cain. Mayor Schieve announced October 19 as Taylor Cain Day for her dedication to strengthening local business in the Reno community!

Thank you so much to the Cain family and to Sonic Drive-In for having me out to this special event! Make sure to check out the new Sonic Drive-In located in South Reno at 6250 S. Virginia Street.
